Effective Date: 1 June 2025

1. Purpose and Scope

This Open Access Policy outlines the International Journal of Communication and Media Studies (IJCMS)’s commitment to providing immediate, unrestricted, and free online access to all peer-reviewed articles.

2. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain full copyright over their published work. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence, which permits sharing, distribution, reproduction, and adaptation in any format, provided the original authors are properly credited.
Any third-party material not covered under CC BY must be clearly identified by authors, who are responsible for obtaining the required permissions. Reuse of content must not imply endorsement by IJCMS or the authors, and any adaptations must be clearly labelled.

3. Article Processing Charges (APCs)

IJCMS does not impose submission fees or Article Processing Charges (APCs) until further notice.

4. Accessibility and Embargoes

The Version of Record is made freely accessible on the journal’s website immediately upon publication. There are no embargo periods for articles or supplementary materials. Posting of pre-print versions is currently not permitted.

5. Self-Archiving and Repository Deposit

Authors are encouraged—but not required—to deposit the published Version of Record in institutional or disciplinary repositories. Deposited versions must include the article’s DOI and full citation to IJCMS.

6. Peer Review Process

All manuscripts undergo a single-blind peer review process involving at least two independent experts. Reviewer comments and editorial decisions are shared only with the corresponding author and co-authors. Annual statistics on review timelines, including submission-to-decision and acceptance periods, will be published on the journal’s website.

7. Metadata, Indexing, and Persistent Identifiers

IJCMS provides machine-readable metadata via OAI-PMH in multiple formats, including MARC, MARC 21, RFC 1807, and Dublin Core. All published articles receive Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) through Crossref. The journal maintains active registrations (e.g., Crossref, DOAJ) and continuously seeks inclusion in additional indexing and abstracting databases.

8. Digital Preservation

Long-term digital preservation is supported through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), ensuring LOCKSS-based redundancy and permanent access. The UPTM Library EPrints repository also stores internal backups of all published content.

9. Author and Reader Rights

Under the CC BY 4.0 licence, users may perform text- and data-mining, commercial reuse, translation, adaptation, and sharing, provided attribution is given. Users may not distort the content or remove original licence information.

10. Publication Ethics and Malpractice

IJCMS follows the COPE Core Practices. All submissions undergo plagiarism screening, and similarity must not exceed 30%. Manuscripts involving human participants, animals, or sensitive data must include relevant ethical approval documentation. Authors should make underlying datasets available unless restrictions are justified. Allegations of misconduct will be investigated according to COPE flowcharts and may result in correction, retraction, or other actions.

11. Funding, Sponsorship, and Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose all funding sources in a “Funding” statement and declare any potential conflicts of interest. IJCMS does not receive advertising or sponsorship income that may influence editorial integrity.
